Stephen Wright

Lead Specialist Practitioner, St Mark’s Hospital, London

Stephen Wright joined St Mark’s Hospital, London, in 2000 and worked as a charge nurse in the Frederick Salmon ward.  Subsequently, in 2003, Stephen took up the post of Stoma Care – Lead Nurse at Milton Keynes General Hospital.  Since 2005, he has been the Lead Specialist Practitioner at St. Mark’s Hospital, leading a team of four practitioners, caring for ward based patients who have undergone complex open/laparoscopic colorectal surgery.  In 2006, Stephen was part of the group which implemented The Enhanced Recovery Programme at St. Mark’s Hospital.  In 2011, he became non-medical prescribing lead for the hospital trust.  Most recently, he has successfully completed the prescribing of blood products course and is one of the first non-haematology nurses able to prescribe blood products in the UK.

Stephen is involved with current research, guideline and protocol development.  His work has been published in a variety of nursing journals and has contributed to several book chapters.  He also contributes to pre and post graduate nurse and medical education, both nationally and internationally.
